Most Chiagoans now know that some 10 to 13,000 graves remain in Chicago’s Lincoln Park, originally the City Cemetery. But another, even darker secret hides here. Between 1893 and 1919, the park hosted many deaths of its own, both accidental and willful. The great majority occured around the now-forgotten High Bridge that stood over the lagoon—a span which quickly beCame known as Suicide Bridge.
